Dr.-Ing. Rolf Klein has experience in laser technology for more than 25 years. He was educated as physicist at the University of Darmstadt, Germany, and carried out his diploma work in basic development of CO2-lasers. Parallel to this he started working on industrial projects for plastic laser material processing. After finalizing education at the University of Darmstadt he changed in 1985 to the new founded Fraunhofer Institute for Laser technology in Aachen, Germany, were he built up and managed a working group in laser material processing of plastics working on various industrial R&D projects.
After his change into industry he finalized his PhD in mechanical engineering at RWTH, Aachen. Subject of his thesis was material processing of plastics with IR laser radiation. During further industrial jobs he worked for several companies as engineer and manager for laser process development, system layout and project management in industrial laser application. In 2004 he joints a company dealing with plastic laser welding systems as development manager. Up to starting his own engineering office he worked several years for an American company as technical product manager for a special process to laser weld transparent or colored plastics.
Dr. Klein has authored several scientific and technical publications with topics of laser material processing and laser system design. He is also a member of the Society of German Engineers (VDI) and Society of Plastic Engineers (SPE) and active in the German Welding Society (DVS) working group for plastic laser welding.
